June + July megashitpost

⚠️ IMPORTANT ⚠️

THIS SHITPOST CONTAINS NSFW CONTENT TOGGLABLE WITH JAVASCRIPT SPOILER COVERS. PARDON THE JAVASCRIPT, BUT THERE IS NO OTHER WAY OF HIDING THINGS COMFORTABLY OTHERWISE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

If you think I should do it on hover instead, contact me. Do note that this will make people on mobile suffer.

I figured I'd write some kind of shitpost at last, but I kept putting it off since I didn't really have anything interesting to talk about for the entirety of June (+ July at this point...), and now I kinda feel like I broke my own self-imposed schedule that I should not even have... "creative" (lol not here) writing requires proper inspiration after all, yadda yadda.

That being said, there were things happening here and there, so I decided to combine them into one megashitpost. I still feel icky about it due to the lack of a proper post subject but eh. Could have been worse. Could have been another AMD/Linux bullshit piece. Could have been... modern news reporting. 🤢

Let us begin then...

Cursed tech stack

Speaking of AMD and Linux, there has been nothing to report on. Nothing. Sure, some things might still be 'annoying', but you know what? Shit just mostly works. I don't care. Tech is now ideally boring for me. I do hear about random issues from some of my friends, so I guess the curse has found other hosts to bother. (sorry guys)

Mid Leveling

This one hurts. You can't make this. It's too shallow, it's too boring, it's too predictable. Why does it exist? Who in their right mind decided to turn that kind of concept into a show? Was that decision made only because of how much money it would bring to the table? I guess that's the only feasible explanation — apart from the production quality, music and the unfounded + undeserved hype combo, there is not one good thing about this show.

It gets worse though. During some "awards" ceremony hosted by none other than the orange website itself, Mid Leveling ended up becoming anime of the year. Dear lord. DEAR LORD.

By the way, I absolutely love the review this image comes from, check it out here. There's also a sequel, which is equally hilarious

Yeah, please do. "What were you thinking? Who voted for that? Is that 'peak' in the show with us right now?" is what I could certainly ask, but I know the answer damn well already anyway. Popularity contest galore.

But even then, Dandadan seemed similarly popular to the abomination show and yet it did not win that award. Also... Frieren, anyone?! Well, such is life. Not that the award in question matters in the slightest.

What does kinda matter is what's going on with South Korea right now. They're fucked due to many factors and I feel very sorry for them. They're having a crisis that's alarming enough that they have to...

Oh, what's this in my feed?

...okay? Looks kinda suspicious, I'll admit I'm kinda scared..., but I guess I'll see what it's abou-

Damn it. Why would it prevent me from accessing this page without an account? (I tried using a private window here)

Is it adult content? I hope not, but it would make sense.

Okay, okay, fine, I'll do it like I should-

Figured. Also:

BRO WHA- WHAT

WHAT

WHAT???

HAVE YOU NO SHAME!

What the fuck... of course! Just... wow...

The title, for those who do not read Korean (myself included)

Brother...

...yeah. Alarming enough that they have to publish THAT kind of stuff. And I thought North Korean propaganda was bad. I mean, it is, but this is worse. North Korea shows you exactly what they want you to think; their goal is easy to notice all throughout their official communication channels. Here, on the other hand, the "have sex at all costs because our society is slowly dying" messaging is properly subliminal — this is next level.

Oh right, next level. I do kinda wonder if it makes sense as a perfect match for mid leveling, or should I say its hentai alter ego. For instance, if it's harem (and it says that it is), maybe we've got the same all-powerful womanizer protagonist setting, but this time he can feel something, sometimes, somewhere. And I don't mean his... eh. That works too I guess, s'fine... It would be funny if only for a "body count leveling" meme, hahaha, very funny indeed. 🙄

But I do commend everyone who gave it scores worthy of this distribution:

because that means they actually read through this many chapters of mostly sex. So yeah, kurzgesagt, you win. South Korea is over. Now I am convinced.

On a serious note though, I should probably read it before I judge it; it's a bit unfair to attempt to roast something that might genuinely be okay or even good simply because it's R18 rated. But I think I'll pass for now...

Chinese media... cool?

Ok, let's change the tone a bit. I recently got into a show called 时光代理人 (Shiguang Dailiren, also known as Link Click). I liked the second season the most out of all of them (that are available so far). I did fuck up the watch order a tiny bit though; I thought Bridon Arc was the first season due to a really bad misread incident... Nothing made sense, but then again something did, and it went on and on like that. I liked how everyone was properly introduced, which does not happen in season one mind you, but then it kind of went downhill from there and the only feeling I had was that of utter confusion. The first scene in that arc means absolutely nothing if you don't know the story so far, so eventually all becomes chaotic. Eventually I got back on track and finally got to see S2 which was superb.

I am kind of impressed with how decent Chinese shows have been popping up lately (or have they simply gotten popular?). There's also this one called 凸变英雄X (To Be Hero X); it's fine, but nothing spectacular. For now it seems to be a setup for something larger that'll come next.

Microsoft

You might be surprised to learn this, but I fancy some simulated aviation. Back when I was around 14-15, I would dabble in Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition with the PMDG 737 and 777 addons. At the time I'd have loved to tell you how amazing Boeing was, and how shit Airbus was. I had no clue about the real world. I had no clue about any flight systems; I just knew what buttons to push, how long to push them and in what order. Some time later, I gave up on that hobby of mine to pursue my current arch-nemesis, which has -hopefully- become obvious by now and which I -hopefully- do not have to tell you anything about.

I came back in 2022, when I saw that a new version of FSX, Microsoft Flight Simulator (or FS2020, MSFS, whatever), landed on Xbox Game Pass (pun intended), packed with terrain photogrammetry and up-to-date AIRAC navigation cycles. I was using Windows at the time purely out of spite due to one issue I have completely forgotten about at this stage. It might have been peer pressure, or some BS like that too, I couldn't tell you.

I went and got the cheap one-month subscription just for this game. I was amazed to figure out it required around 200 GiB of storage space, but I was sure that thanks to this, the sim was going to be the best recreational consumer flight simulator for the PC. And it was! I even found this amazing open source addon which I have since embraced and still use even today (the A320neo I mean, I should also probably try the A380 one day). Later that month, both my subscription and temper tantrum expired and so I went back to good old Arch.

I dared to dream though; I looked at ProtonDB and learned that the sim could run on Linux just fine, so I immediately rented it on Steam for around ~$54 on a sale. It turned out that even my trusty old Logitech joystick worked without issue, together with its throttle slider (though the stick has definitely seen better days).

By the way, yes, I did say 'rented' and not 'bought'. This is an always online game, but this time for an actual reason. Yes, they will eventually shut it down. Yes, I will be very sad when they do. No, I will not be surprised and no, I have absolutely no intention of paying for addons for this game. I'll stick to freeware.

I fell out of habit of running it one day and uninstalled it after accumulating around 100 hours of playtime... thus one could say I got $1.85 per hour out of the sim. Very funny.

But as of now, June 2025, I have returned to MSFS to occasionally fly some short legs with the A32NX and I love it.

Approaching RKSI (Incheon)'s runway 15L during a flight from RJAA (Narita)

I've also started learning more and more about aviation and its various intricacies. There's an amazing YouTube channel run by a B737 flight instructor who explains lots of concepts and systems as part of accident and incident investigations. Check him out if you're into aviation too!

No more Maomao 😭

薬屋のひとりごと, also known as The Apothecary Diaries, has officially finished airing on July 4th, 2025. I am very unhappy about this information and my days are now ruined. It felt similar to how I usually feel when I finish watching shows like Steins;Gate, Frieren, Dungeon Meshi or Girls Band Cry. It sucks, but that just means I need to find another show. Such is life.

Gacha on Steam

Steam seems to host a lot of gacha video games now, notably Persona 5: The Phantom X, Wuthering Waves and... Blue Archive have joined the platform.

I tested all of them (to see if they ran on Linux, of course, as I always do...), and here are my conclusions:

Cool band I found

This one. It's cool. I love it. Special thanks to a friend of mine for recommending it to me! \o/

End Of Us...?

And so I have run out of things to get mad at. Since my latest fun incident with my laptop, I've basically had no computer problems whatsoever (I already mentioned this, didn't I...). As such, starting now, I will mostly post longer, aggregated things that are probably going to be boring as fuck. Maybe I'll encounter something interesting to write about, but that has unfortunately run out for now. If you genuinely thought I am able to always find something cool every single month, feel free to unsubscribe from the feed.

Oh, right, you might not have known, I have an RSS feed. I've had it since the beginning of this shitwall, actually. I'll leave it up to you to figure out how to subscribe to it if you're interested.

In the meantime... this is where I get off.

I actually managed to stay relatively calm this time! Progress.
